A network of social interactions and personal relations where people can communicate with each other by posting information, messages, images etc. on it. Social media is one of the fastest changing and trending industries out there. It is growing with speed of light and has its huge impact on everyone. Sometimes a cutting-edge technology changes the whole game, or an old idea (e.g. virtual reality) gains viral popularly. Social media sites now are doing everything they can to keep people on their platform.
So in this continuously changing world of social media we will look into some of the top 7 dominating social media trends who are going to blast the social world in 2017:
#1: Social Messaging
When people discuss about social media, there always seems to be more focus on social messaging apps. The four main messaging apps on social media (WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, Viber) together have wider community than the four main social networks (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter). The popularity of messaging app is growing. Until recently, many companies had focused their efforts on social networks. But in 2017, they will start investing massively in social messaging applications because it’s a great platform to reach out to more people.
#2: No Fake News
It shows that, every year more and more people globally are using Internet/Social Media as their main news source instead of Newspaper, TV, or Radio. As a result to that, there’s been a rise in the “Fake News” from sites that deliberately publish and circulate inaccurate information about current events. We saw one example of it during the 2016 America’s presidential election fake news about both candidates was shared widely across Facebook, Twitter, and other social platforms. Facebook is partnering with Snopes and others to fact check fake news in the news feed. Facebook will also ask users for their help in identifying fake news, and alert users before they share potentially fake news that could affect the community.
#3: Real-time Content
Video sharing site YouTube was built on the foundation of videos that capture real, unfiltered moments. YouTube is still the top contender today in terms of video content uploaded and viewed. But now social media is going next level by making real-time content. Social media is becoming fascinated by live, real-time content. In live-streaming Twitter has periscope, Facebook has its own “Facebook Live” feature, and Instagram also have Live streaming feature which are three of the live streaming services social media offers to its user for free of charge. Live streaming has been utilized by large social media personalities, with this form of content it is easier than ever to connect with everyone.
#4: Virtual & Augmented Reality in social media
Technology world has seen the success that virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have reached in 2016. In 2017 the tech giants are heavily investing in this new area of reality and entering this sector of social networks. People will see the next phase of platform acceptance in VR, Facebook’s(Oculus rift), Sony, Alphabet (Google cardboard) are several VR headset firms. Facebook is also experimenting augmented reality. They recently acquired Masquerade, a live filter and selfie app for live streaming video. This feature will allow users to try different masks while live streaming video. Augmented reality is actually an old technology that’s started to go viral thanks to the social media. Pokemon Go and Snapchat selfie lenses have been effective in introducing AR to the public.
A chatbot, according to Chatbots Magazine, is a service powered by rules and artificial intelligence, that anyone can have conversation with via a chat interface. Chatbots have the intelligence and ability to help people consume content, solving queries and complete transactions.
Chatbots are gaining a lot of buzz and Facebook had integrated chatbots in its facebook messenger. More people now prefer social media over a phone call for customer service and Chatbots are already helping businesses improve their customer service by quickly responding to their comments and questions. Though some people think chatbots were made to add entertainment value in chat services.
#6: SELL ON SOCIAL NETWORK
On Social Network there is a lot of social selling happening. Salespeople from large enterprises and small-and medium-sized businesses (SMB’s) are using social network for their sales contact. Numbers of people are growing on social media, and level of noise in social network is also increasing and making it harder for brands to be heard and reach out to their target customers. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest offer ways for users to purchase products from directly within their apps. Many consumers are following brands on social media to browse products for sale and to purchase. Brand marketing and selling on social media is getting beneficial for brands. In Future we may get to see many providers promote selling through social media.
#7: PERSONALIZED CONTENT
More and more people are becoming less appreciative with traditional advertising; the need for relevant and more personalized content is becoming more important. All the big social media players like Google, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter support custom audiences who appreciate personalized content. Marketers are fully using the social media platform for Account-based marketing (ABM) programs as they can identify on their preferences and interests the best target accounts and deliver personalized content to the prospect. This personalized content will help consumers to recall a brand; it will lead them to interact with company more personally, which will eventually convert them to a loyal customer of the business.
